Emergency officials and volunteers from several state agencies in California continued to clean up the oil spill residue from Huntington Beach to Laguna Beach, in southern California, on Tuesday.

Workers have deployed containment booms to contain the spill, scooped the oil residue off the beach with shovels, and disposed of it in watertight bags.

According to reports, up to 144,000 gallons of oil spilled into the Southern California coast, with the exact cause of the incident yet to be determined.

Late on Monday, California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in Orange County due to the area’s largest oil spill in three decades.
