“Firstly, I want to say sorry.” UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has apologised to MPs for after a watered down version of Sue Gray’s partygate report was published.

The document, described by the senior civil servant as an ‘update’ rather than a fully-fledged report, revealed serious failings in No. 10.

Sue Gray’s partygate report spoke of a “serious failure” to observe Covid standards and said several gatherings should not have taken place. The civil servant added that the Downing Street garden was “used for gatherings” and “this was not appropriate”.

Alongside issuing an apology, Johnson said he would “learn from these events and act now” by implementing changes to improve the running of government.
