Cars could be seen driving at a location just outside of Hodeidah on Saturday, as the Houthis re-opened the main road linking the capital Sana’a with the port city of Hodeidah. According to a tweet by Hodeidah Governor Muhammad Ayyash Qahim, the road has become accessible for the first time in three years.
The area is seen surrounded by buildings left in ruins by the last three years of fighting.
The re-opening of the route took place a day after Emirati-backed forces including the Giants Brigade announced their withdrawal from parts of Hodeidah.
In turn, the Yemeni government denied, in a statement published on Saturday, its connection with the withdrawal of the forces from parts of the Hodeidah Governorate.
