The B-segment SUV is one of the fastest growing segments in the market right now as roads nowadays are getting more congested. Hence many car manufacturers like Ford come out their EcoSport, Peugeot with their 2008, Renault with their Captur and Honda showed up their compact SUV with the Vezel or HR-V. Now another manufacturer is joining the rapid growing segment, Mazda and company has introduced the latest CX-3 compact SUV just in time before its Los Angeles International Auto Show debut. Just like the current crop of Mazda models, the CX-3 features the Kodo- Soul of Motion design language as well as SkyActiv engines and chassis which largely resembles the recently introduced Mazda 2 B-segment hatchback. The new CX-3 will make its full market debut come March 2015 starting with Japan. Two new engines are offered for the CX-3, a a SkyActiv-D 1.5-litre clean diesel while the other is the larger SkyActiv-G 2.0-litre petrol. The new generation of Mazda's all wheel drive system will be available, but it depends on which market offers it. Depending on the engines choosen, it is paired either a six-speed SkyActiv-MT or SkyActiv AT transmissions. The aforementioned AWD system features an active torque control coupling which was also used on the larger CX-5. A front wheel slip warning system is fitted in the CX-3 that uses sensors to monitor how driver throttle input is affected by the current surface conditions, and continually varies the torque split between front and rear wheels. The power take-off and rear-diff unit from the Mazda 2 is adopted in this model. In terms of exterior styling, the CX-3 adopts the Kodo- Soul of Motion design language and all its design cues are taken from the Mazda 2. Growing in height and interior spaciousness, a nearly identical front-end design is employed on the CX-3, which most noticeable has a larger grille with horizontal blades running across. The same can also be explained on the rear as it has a new rear bumper in black, and twin tailpipes on either side. The headlights with integrated LED illumination lines is also present too. Apart from the increase in size, the carmaker has added a new Ceramic Metallic body colour. A larger diameter tyre is fitted in the CX-3 with optional 18-inch aluminium wheels that have thick, sculpted spokes in gunmetal grey, contrasted by a sheen of machined metal. Inside, the cabin in the CX-3 features high refinement and quality just like the Mazda 2. Notable highlights are its three air-vents in the dash, LCD display screen in the middle, three-spoke steering wheel with audio control buttons, and an overall cockpit that curves itself nicely around drivers. Besides that, it also has Mazda’s MZD Connect car connectivity system. Compared to the Mazda 2, the CX-3 has more room for passengers as the rear seats are moved closer to the center of the vehicle and it is positioned higher than the front seats. This allows rear passengers to have a a good frontal view outside the car. Drivers of the CX-3 will also benefit from the high seating position against the Mazda 2 but the crucial part is that much care has been taken to ensure that good surrounding visibility is maintained. In terms of safety, the company's i-ActiveSense technology is present in this model too. It encompasses the SUV’s ability to “see” potential accidents with the use of a milliwave radar.
