A very overlooked thing that can be caused by stress, however, is nerve pain. If you are having things happen to you such as tingling in fingers as well as pins and needles in hands, it is possible stress is causing this. Stress can cause nerve symptoms such as numbness in hands by affecting the function of your Scalene muscles. These muscles attach to your 1st and 2nd ribs. If you are stressed, you tend to take more shallow breaths. This can lead to these muscles becoming very tight, causing you to have an elevated first rib. Here is where problems happen. There is a nerve bundle that comes out of your neck called the Brachial Plexus. This nerve bundle passes between your 1st rib and your Clavicle, or collarbone. If you have an elevated 1st rib, you can get nerve entrapment here. Because these nerves travel down to your hands, you can now get nerve pain there. So having trapped nerves up by your neck can directly cause tingling in fingers. If you have this, you will obviously want to lower your stress levels. Seeing a physical therapist is also a good idea. Finally, consider stretching your Scalene muscles.
