彝族口弦大师 Jonathan Richter (冉峻) 2014 Please watch in HD for best viewing experience! With special thanks to the Fulbright program, Xiamen University, University of Hawai'i, and IIE, I am happy to present "Masters of the Yi Mouth Harp"! This film was made during my China Fulbright research grant in 2012-2013. The Yi are the seventh most populace ethnic minority group in China. The mouth harp instrument serves various functions in Yi culture and society, and is an example of a speech surrogate or "talking instrument. "Masters of the Yi Mouth Harp" features interviews and performances with the remaining Yi mouth harp experts, and investigates the extent to which the Yi mouth harp culture is dying out. For consent purposes, more information, or if you would like to contact me directly, check out our website (www.yimouthharp.com). Please forgive any audio consistency issues, as most of this footage was taken in difficult terrain, and with limited time and resources. Thank you for your support and please enjoy "Masters of the Yi Mouth Harp"! Extra special thanks to: Wang Min, Fred Lau, Cathryn Clayton, Byong Won Lee, Eric and Dasa Mortensen, Kami Rowen, Janet Upton and the entire China Fulbright and IIE staff!
