Needed Time (with lyrics)

It was an enthusiastically singing audience at much of the Yellow Door Coffeehouse's 'Friday Night Open Stage' of 19 September 2014, which I host, so even though it was somewhat past closing time when the show finally ended, I asked them to join me for one more song before getting them to stack the chairs, wash the cups and then head out into the late night in downtown Montreal. learned this from Taj Mahal's playing of this tune in the soundtrack of the movie "Sounder" in 1972. His version showed up on the radio for a few days. Imagine that: clawhammer banjo on pop music radio! I actually learned it from the radio - the only song I've ever done so with. I now do it many different ways: in a variety of keys and tunings, fast, slow, with or without slide, etc. Here it's done in Open C tuning (gCGCE), the same tuning Taj Mahal used.
