After a solid couple of weeks in which boats were finding the best success on striped bass and monster bluefish off the beach, the fish have turned towards shore providing surfcasters with steady action along the Jersey Coast. The first body of big stripers that came down the coast a few weeks back have moved into the South Jersey region, while a new batch of striped bass have invaded the Seaside vicinity in recent days providing a few blitz-like conditions. Stripers of 20 pounds or better are taking chunks of bunker, plugs of varying styles and also metals; teen-class or better bluefish are also in the mix, and with peanut bunker still making their way south, it could provide some good opportunities to score in the next couple of weeks (hang tight Delaware, the fish are steaming south as you read this!) Winds are expected to blow 20 to even 30 knots out of the W/NW through Saturday night with heavy surf, which could literally put the fish at your feet in the coming days. If you’d like to leave your boat in port, the party boats will be jigging for bass and blues through the weekend and should offer a good shot at some trophy catches – on Monday, November 16th, a lot of attention will turn to wreck fishing as New Jersey’s tautog limits go from one fish to six fish per angler. Book your trip now, the early catches could be impressive! Grab your surf gear and get in on the action with the latest reports and our weekend video forecast.
