rapid.fire for Solo Flute by Jennifer Higdon

March 5th, 2017 Ellye Walsh, flute Mark Manring, videographer Hill Hall, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Performance in honor of Dr. Brooks de Wetter-Smith, distinguished professor of flute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Smith retired in 2017 after more than 4 decades of teaching and performing at UNC. rapid.fire was written to portray the violence of the cities; more specifically, the innocent young who are cut down in their homes and on the streets. It is an expression of rage, of pain, and of disbelief; it is fear and terror; it is an inner city cry. - Jennifer Higdon, composer
