‘30 Premature Babies Evacuated From Al-Shifa ‘Death Zone’ Hospital’.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) have described Gaza’s Al-Shifa hospital as a ‘death zone’ after their visit to the site on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, Israeli forces had reportedly issued evacuation orders to thousands at the hospital, including medics, patients and the displaced.

Medics and patients reported they were given just an hour to leave, causing mass fear and panic.

Israeli forces who had been at the site since Wednesday claim they had been asked by the hospital to help those who wanted to leave do so through safe exits.

They have denied ordering any evacuation.

However, this has been categorically denied by the hospital’s director-general who reiterated “we were forced to leave by gunpoint”.

It is not yet clear where the evacuees will go - with reports that around 26 out of 36 of Gaza’s hospitals are ‘no longer operational.’

Left behind at Al-Shifa are a small team of medics, along with the very critically ill and those unable to move.

On Sunday, at least 30 critically ill premature babies who had remained at the hospital were evacuated to Egypt by the UN.

Originally the hospital had 39 premature babies but many had died after they had run out of fuel to keep their incubators running.

Israel’s attacks on the hospital have led to accusation of potential ‘war crimes’ as hospitals are protected under international law.

Israeli forces say this protection is lost if it’s proven that the hospital is used for ‘harmful acts’.

They’ve also repeatedly asserted that Hamas is embedded in the civilian population and operates a command centre at the site.

The IDF now claims to have found tunnels underneath the site, yet say they will release the footage at a later date.

Both the hospital and Hamas have repeatedly denied the claims it operates a command centre at the site.

They’ve accused Israel of likely going on to falsify evidence by turning the hospital into it’s own military headquarters and then presenting it as a Hamas base.

More than 11,500 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza according to reports by it’s Health Ministry - with 70% of them women and children.
