Traders had set up tents and gathered sacrificial cattle for sale in Ada on Sunday as Afghanistan prepares to mark Eid Al Adha, the first after the withdrawal of US forces.
Resident of Jalalabad Shokrullah Hotak, said that with the withdrawal of US forces violence had increased in the country, which in turn had a negative impact on local business including selling of sheep and other animals.
“The market is not good for animals this year, the situation is very bad, everywhere fighting ongoing,” said another local resident, Ahmad Khan.
“Exactly we are concerned about our future, we don’t know what is the reason that the situation gets worse day by day, security should have improved with the departure of the US forces,” he added.
Afghans are celebrating the Muslim Eid as heavy fighting is ongoing in 25 provinces of Afghanistan and many districts have fallen to the Taliban forces.
Eid al-Adha or the ‘Festival of the Sacrifice,’ is the second of two globally celebrated holidays in Islam, the other being Eid Al-Fitr, with the former honouring Ibrahim or Abraham’s will to sacrifice his son to God before Jibra’il, or Gabriel’s intervention. Animals are often sacrificed on the holiday to remember Ibrahim’s offering.
