Residents of Jalalabad gathered on the streets on Saturday, in a plea to Taliban authorities for food and aid.
Crowds were seen lining the pavements and apparently blocking traffic, as Taliban officials monitored.
“Now all our work is stopped, we are facing serious problems in life, we have nothing in the house. Our life has become dull with the arrival of Taliban. Now we have to take care of our lives. Poverty and insecurity have befallen me,” said Abdul Rauf, a local brick maker.
A report by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) in October estimated that the lives and access to food of 22.8 million Afghans would be affected following the Taliban takeover earlier in the year.
