Scores of protesters, including women, marched through Kabul on Tuesday to demonstrate against what they allege to be Pakistani interference in Afghanistan.
“Just candidly, we are protesting to stop Pakistani intervention,” said one demonstrator.
Pakistan’s intelligence chief Faiz Hameed visited the Taliban leadership in Kabul for a series of meetings on Saturday, reportedly related to security and border issues. However, his visit has sparked fears of Pakistani interference among some in Afghanistan.
“Our protest concerns the reason why the head of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has come and stayed in Kabul,” said a protester.
“We want just an Afghan government, we want freedom,” she added.
According to reports, armed men later attacked protesters and members of the press, after clashes broke out.

SOT, Protester (Dari): “Our cause is that we have seen that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) [representative] was seen in Afghanistan and their planes were seen as well, they have interfered directly and because of that, we are protesting that we don’t want Pakistan [here].”
SOT, Protester (Dari): “Our protest concerns the reason why the head of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) has come and stayed in Kabul, while they invaded our soul through Pakistani planes, death to Pakistan, we don’t want Pakistan. We want just an Afghan government, we want freedom, why has food and drinking water for the people including women and children been suspended? Why? The international community must sanction Pakistan, we disregard a government that is made with Pakistan.”
