Three Russian Il-76 military transport aircraft delivered 36 tonnes of humanitarian cargo, including food and medicine to Kabul’s airport on Wednesday, as announced by the Russian Defence Ministry.
“The total volume of humanitarian cargo will exceed 100 tonnes. A large group of Afghan students as well as Russian citizens will be flown back by the Ministry of Defence. In addition, CSTO citizens have signed up for the flight,” said Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan Dmitri Zhirnov.
The ambassador pointed to the high level of poverty and unemployment in Afghanistan, saying the country’s financial accounts have been frozen by the United States and Western sanctions have paralysed the banking system.
“Under these conditions, it is difficult to talk about an effective fight against terrorism,” Zhirnov said.
Over 200 citizens of Russia, Ukraine, Afghanistan and CSTO countries (Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia) were evacuated from Afghanistan by military plane on November 18.

SOT, Dmitri Zhirnov, Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan (Russian): “In accordance with an instruction from the President of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Defence sent another large consignment of humanitarian aid to the Afghan people on the first of December. The Russian Air Force’s military transport aircraft have delivered 36 tonnes of food to Kabul. Another airlift is on the way. The total volume of humanitarian cargo will exceed 100 tonnes. A large group of Afghan students as well as Russian citizens will be flown back by the Ministry of Defence. In addition, CSTO citizens have signed up for the flight.”

SOT, Dmitri Zhirnov, Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan (Russian): “The new Afghan authorities now have no money. The Americans have frozen the country’s financial accounts and Western sanctions have paralysed Afghanistan’s banking system. Under these conditions, it is difficult to talk about an effective fight against terrorism.”

SOT, Journalist: “Where are you going and why are you going?”

Mohammed, student from Afghanistan: “I’m going to Russia, a Russian federal county and I’m going for education. And I’m going to study at engineering faculty, architecture”

Journalist: “And that’s your first time in Russia?”

Mohammed: “Yes, it’s my first time, my first ever time of my being in Russia”

Journalist: “And for how long are you going, do you now? Do you have any idea?”

Mohammed: “Maybe, if I went for a bachelor’s degree, it would take five or six years. And for master’s degree two or three years”

Journalist"And are you looking forward to going to Russia or is it painful to leave our country?”

Mohammed: “Yeah, it’s very painful. Now Afghanistan is being treated by the Taliban. And they don’t know how to rule the country and we have to go from here to reach our dreams, because here we can’t. Recording the regulations, the laws, everything. People can’t believe them, people can’t accept them rolling the country and about everything.”
