Russian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Afghanistan Dmitry Zhirnov spoke on Monday about the current situation in Kabul after the Taliban took control of the city.

“When their main forces began to enter the city, also peacefully, without any excesses, without resistance, without anything, without sacrifices, then order began,” he said.

“And when the curfew was declared at night, there was no more shooting, there was not a single shot for the whole day today - everything is calm, there is not a single shot. Even girls’ schools are working,” he added.

Zhirnov also commented on the activity of the Russian diplomatic mission in Kabul.

“There is no evacuation, we are working as usual - nothing changes. There are no reasons for changes - we work in full force. There is no need for any downsizing of the embassy because the situation is calm,” he stressed.

The Afghan security forces laid down their arms, went home, then the Afghan secret service, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of the Interior dispersed, and then the surrender took place.”
