Families sought shelter at an internally displaced people camp in the Takhar province amid ongoing conflict, as seen on Sunday.

Afghan security forces and armed militias continue to fight off an ongoing Taliban offensive around Taloqan, the province’s capital.

“According to the outcome of recent offensives, we have at least 10,000 or more than 10,000 displaced families, among which there are at least 2,200 families that we have helped and have received aid, with 900 other families set to receive help [in due course],” explained Yasin Labib, head of the Takhar province department for refugees.

Tamana, a displaced person, deplored her difficult situation. “The Taliban entered our homes, they hid in our house, the home that we built with great difficulty. They destroyed our homes,” she said.

Fighting between the Afghan forces and Taliban fighters continues in 15 provinces, including Kandahar and Ghazni, local reports say.

The Taliban has reportedly seized control of several Afghan border crossings in recent weeks. The group makes rapid advances in the face of the withdrawal of US and other NATO troops.

The Biden administration has announced that all US military forces will have left the country by September 11, ending an almost 20-year deployment.

SOT, Tamana, Displaced person (Dari): “The Taliban entered our homes, they hid themselves in our house, the home that we built with great difficulty. They destroyed our homes. All the Taliban are occupying homes, we appeal to the government that we and our children are sick and our economy situation is in a bad state. If they help us, God bless them, but if they don’t help us, they must go and clear out our homes, they should remove the Taliban until we can go back to our homes.” *LOOSE TRANSLATION AT SOURCE*

SOT, Zarmina, Displaced Person (Dari): “There is nothing left [out of my belongings], I don’t even have 10 afghanis to visit the governor’s office, by God’s sake the driver brought us food. If the Taliban take my son and make him into a suicide bomber what shall I do then? I don’t need such a life.” *LOOSE TRANSLATION AT SOURCE*

SOT, Temorshah, Displaced person (Dari): “The mortars hit our homes, as did airstrikes, our homes are destroyed. All I could do was flee the area, so we finally escaped.”

SOT, Yasin Labib, Head at Takhar province refugees’ department (Dari): “According to the outcome of recent offensives, we have at least 10,000 or more than 10,000 displaced families, among which there are at least 2,200 families that we have helped and have received aid, with 900 other families set to receive help [in due course].”
