Alexei Navalny is ‘seriously ill’ in a prison sick ward a week after going on hunger strike.

His lawyer confirmed that the Russian opposition figure was “in rather bad condition”.

He is reportedly suffering from a respiratory illness, with a cough and high temperature.

The Kremlin critic said several others on the ward had been treated for tuberculosis.

Police arrested several supporters who travelled to the prison to petition for his medical care.

The IK-2 prison colony where he is being held is notoriously strict and specialises in isolation.
