Supports of tennis star Novak Djokovic danced, sang and waved Serbian flags in front of the hotel where he is being held in Melbourne on Sunday, while his legal team defies the Australian government’s decision to deport him.

Refugee activists have also used the opportunity to raise awareness of Australia’s border policies towards refugees who are being detained in the same hotel.

Djokovic was denied entry into Australia due to his failure to produce proof of a COVID vaccination and according to government officials is allowed to leave the country whenever he wishes to.
