Australia: Melbourne protest takes aim at vaccine mandates, pandemic bill

Thousands of protesters gathered in Melbourne, Australia to protest the state’s vaccine mandates and a proposed COVID-19 pandemic bill. The march started at the State Library and ended at the Parliament House.

“I am here today to fight for freedom and democracy. The bill that is being introduced at the Parliament is not democratic, it is the beginning of the end of our freedoms,” said a protester at the rally.

Victoria’s proposed pandemic legislation aims to give the Premier authority to declare a pandemic among other things.

Protesters carried signs saying ‘kill the bill’ in protest.

According to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, Australia has recorded a total number of 178,927 COVID cases and as many as 1,805 related death to date.
