Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Melbourne, Thursday, as Australia’s second-largest city entered its sixth pandemic lockdown after new COVID-19 cases were reported.

The statewide lockdown will last for seven days, with Victorians only allowed to leave the house for a handful of reasons, including exercising, grocery shopping and getting vaccinated.

Three of the new six locally transmitted COVID-19 cases reported on Thursday come from an unknown source and couldn’t yet be traced. Those ‘mystery cases’ suspected to be the Delta variant prompted Premier Dan Andrews to lock down the entire state of Victoria as the government aims to eradicate cases until 80 percent of Victorians are vaccinated.

Once again anti-lockdown protesters met on the steps of Flinders Street station shortly before the lockdown started and marched through the streets chanting slogans against the government.

Since the pandemic started, 932 people died in Australia with COVID-19.
