Several protesters were detained in Vienna on Saturday, after a protest over the government’s COVID measures put in place over Christmas to curb the spread of the virus turned tense.

Protesters broke down police barriers as they marched to contest the COVID measures.

The nationwide lockdown was removed last Sunday, with measures for the unvaccinated eased for the Christmas period. Unvaccinated will reportedly be permitted to leave homes over the Christmas and New Year holidays to attend family celebrations with a maximum of 10 people. 2G rules apply to any gatherings of more than 10 people.
