Former leftist President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva criticised far-right President Jair Bolsonaro during a press conference in Brasilia on Friday.

“A president does not win an election to say stupid things. He should shut up and be a president like many others were in the past,” said Lula.

The former President also said he would be willing to discuss Brazil’s future during the 2022 presidential campaign without confirming nor denying his candidacy.

In the past few months, Lula organised several private meetings with other party leaders to form a coalition.

Lula’s attack comes at a low point for Bolsonaro’s popularity, which has been plummeting in the last year due to his government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic that killed over 600,000 people in the country so far.
