Chile: 'Partly happy and partly sad' - Santiago residents react to Boric presidential victory

Residents of Santiago shared their opinions following the victory of left-winger Gabriel Boric in the presidential election runoff, Monday.

“I think that yesterday’s triumph of Boric is not just a triumph of him as a leader but rather a triumph of the citizens and their return to politics as well,” said one resident.

She added: “the democratic transition is finally completed, and from today on there will be a new path for the country.”

Another citizen noted that Boric may lack some governing experience, but remained confident that he was the right candidate.

“He is really young, he is not so well prepared yet but he can learn much and become a good president,” the resident said.

Boric is due to be sworn in as president of Chile on March 11. He beat his right-wing rival Jose Antonio Kast in a runoff election on Sunday.
