Chinese Foreign Minister (MOFA) spokesperson Wang Wenbin condemned the US airstrike in Kabul which caused ten civilian casualties, during a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday.

“Although the US troops have withdrawn from Afghanistan, civilians being killed by the US troops and its allies in Afghanistan in the past 20 years must be investigated clearly, and the perpetrators must be brought to justice,” said Wenbin.

The US carried out a “defensive” airstrike on Sunday, August 29 at a residential compound against ‘multiple suicide bombers’ from the local Islamic State’s affiliate, aiming to attack Kabul’s international airport. The drone strike reportedly caused the death of ten family members, including children.

Beijing hopes that all parties in Afghanistan will build “an open and inclusive political structure’ and that the country, now led by the Taliban, will ‘be demarcated from all kinds of terrorist organisations.”
