Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said China would be donating 200 million yuan ($31 million) in emergency aid to Afghanistan, speaking at a news conference in Beijing on Monday.
“China has decided to offer emergency assistance with 200 million RMB, including food, winter supplies, vaccines and medicine. When security conditions are ready, China will help Afghanistan build to improve livelihood to its best capability and support its peace, reconstruction, and economic development. This shows China-friendly policy toward Afghanistan and for the entire Afghan people,” said Zhao.
The spokesperson also stressed the importance of constructive discussions with the US regardless of ongoing disputes.
“The future of the world will depend on how the US and China get along with each other. The two countries have no interest in letting competition leading two countries into conflict. The two sides should have more kinds of exchanges in constructive discussions to identify key and priority areas via cooperation, avoid miscommunication, miscalculation and unintended conflicts,” concluded the official.
SOT, Zhao Lijian, China MOFA spokesperson (Mandarin): “China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi who attended the first Foreign Minsters’ meeting of Afghanistan’s neighbouring countries announced that, based on the Afghan people’s needs, China has decided to offer an emergency assistance of 200 million RMB, including food, winter supplies, vaccines and medicine. When security conditions allow, China will help Afghanistan to improve livelihood to its best capability, support the country’s peace, reconstruction and economic development. This shows a friendly policy towards Afghanistan and the entire Afghan people. It also embodies traditional Chinese culture of mutual assistance especially during hardship.”

The international community should offer its economic, livelihood and humanitarian assistance to help the people overcome the difficult times. I want to stress that the initiator of the Afghan issue, the US, must honestly fulfil its commitments to the country and assume its due responsibility and obligation on the basis of respecting the country’s sovereignty and independence. The US should take actions during its economic difficulties instead of shifting the blame and shrinking its responsibilities.”
