China: Yuncheng city devastated as flooding hits Shanxi province

Severe flooding has hit northern China’s Shanxi province following heavy rainfall, as seen in Yuncheng city’s Xinjiang county on Saturday.

Crop fields could be seen submerged beneath water, with rescue teams battling to keep the flooding under control.

Ms Zhang, resident of the nearby Zhanli village, stated that the 5 mu (0.82 acres) of corn fields planted by her family had been destroyed, leading to a loss of ¥6,000-¥7,000 (€800-€940).

“The walls of many houses in the village have cracked and the foundations have sunk, and emergency repairs are being carried out,” said Zhanli village resident Mr Zhao, who lost ¥2000 (€270) worth of crops in the rainfall.

On Wednesday, Shanxi province declared its third-highest emergency response due to the flooding.
At least four have died, according to local media reports, whilst some 20,000 residents have been relocated across the province.

Our house has also been damaged by the water and now it is dangerous. What you saw just now is the living room, the bedrooms are also like that.
