The West Jerusalem municipality began demolishing the Karami family’s house in the al-Tur neighbourhood in East Jerusalem on Tuesday after the family’s forced eviction.

Clashes erupted between Israeli police forces and the Palestinian family and their supporters before the family members were forced to remove their furniture out of their two-storey house.

According to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS), the Israeli forces used tear gas and stun grenades to disperse the family and their supporters, causing nine injured during the clashes.

Hundreds of Palestinian homes in the city are under threat of forced eviction and demolition under the pretext of construction without a permit, as getting a construction permit in the city is nearly impossible. As a result, people build on their lands without a permit, risking the possibility of demolition and paying very high fines and court costs.
