The two explosions that shook the facilities of the Camilo Daza International Airport in the city of Cucuta on Tuesday caused material damage to adjacent houses.

“The sound was very harsh, very harsh, I thought the house was going to fall on top of us. And the second bombshell was also very scary,” said one local resident.

According to early reports, in the first explosion the attacker died while handling the explosive device, and in the second two police officers were killed.

According to Colombian Defence Minister Diego Molano, the first explosion occurred at around 5:45 a.m. local time (10:45 GMT) after the attacker crossed one of the airport fences.

SOT, Local resident (Spanish): “We don’t know what happened, because we were sleeping, and it was scary, scary because obviously the windows were broken, and the bed is on the other side. We were awakened by splinters of glass that fell on us. Thank goodness the curtain is there so it didn’t get to hurt your face or something. The sound was very harsh, very harsh, I thought the house was going to fall on top of us. And the second bombshell was also very scary. They have not come to look at the damage or anything, only those who film, those from the newspapers and the TV channels that have come to film, but nobody has said anything about the damage.”
