The head of the Gulf Clan, Dairo Antonio Usuga, also known as ‘Otoniel’, was transferred to Bogota on Thursday night, hours after his arrest in Necocli.
Colombian authorities developed the joint operation ‘Osiris’ over five years to achieve the capture or killing of the criminal leader.
‘Otoniel’, 49, was the most wanted drug trafficker in the country and has over 120 cases open for a series of crimes that include homicide, kidnapping and conspiracy to commit crimes.
The DEA had offered up to $5 million (€4,29 million) in reward for his capture.
The Gulf Clan was considered the largest group of drug traffickers in Colombia.
