Thousands of people marched in Bogota on Thursday, marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

Women’s rights organisations and activists marched behind an ambulance from Ciudad Jardin Park in the south of Bogota towards the city centre wearing the emblematic colour purple, the official colour of International Women’s Day.

According to the Colombian Feminicide Observatory, 526 sex-based hate crimes have been perpetrated so far in 2021.

“We are together challenging each of these types of violence against women. And yes, the impunity that each one of these femicides has,” stated one protester.

Protesters demanded an end to gender violence and an end to impunity against femicides, as well as access to legal, safe, and free abortions.
