Cuba sent their first shipments of the Cuban-made COVID vaccine to Syria on Friday at Jose Marti Airport in Havana.

The Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister and Syrian Ambassador Idris Mayya held a small press conference sending off the vaccines to the Syrian Arab Republic.

Ana Teresita Gonzalez, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs said, “the vaccines developed by the Cuban science, the first in Latin America and the Caribbean, are a modest contribution to the fight against the pandemic worldwide, which we are satisfied to share with the people of Syria.”

She continued, “we are sure that these vaccines will help reduce the repercussions of the pandemic in that country, beset by the aftermath of the war and the economic sanctions imposed by the United States and other Western powers.”
