United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus on Tuesday.

This visit comes amid a continuous rapprochement between Syria and the UAE. Last March, the Gulf country said sweeping US sanctions imposed on the war-torn country made it more challenging for Syria to return to the Arab League.
