Cuba: New shipment of humanitarian aid from Russia arrives in Havana

A new shipment of almost 20 tonnes of medical supplies and medicines, sent by Russia, arrived on Monday in Cuba to help in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is the fifth flight with humanitarian aid sent by Moscow to the island since the end of last December.

The shipment received on Monday, valued at some $2 million (€1.7 million), was received at Havana’s Jose Marti International Airport by the Russian ambassador to Cuba, Andrey Guskov, and Cuba’s first deputy minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Ana Teresita Gonzalez, along with other Cuban authorities.

“It is with satisfaction that we meet again today to thank, on behalf of the Cuban government and people, the donation offered by the Russian Federation, which constitutes a valuable contribution to the Cuban health system to face the COVID-19 pandemic,” Gonzalez said.
