The co-chairperson and top candidate of Die Linke party Janine Wissler demanded international solidarity as an approach to foreign policy at a final campaign rally in Potsdam on Friday.

SOT, Janine Wissler, Die Linke top candidate (German): “And I want to emphasise that after more than 30 years, East Germans are still receiving lower salaries than West Germans and still have lower pension entitlements. This is an injustice and Die Linke will not stop pointing out this injustice until it is finally eliminated, dear friends.”

SOT, Janine Wissler, Die Linke top candidate (German): “Die Linke is a consistent peace party. And after 20 years of war in Afghanistan, in the last few weeks and months, we have seen in which disaster it ended. 20 years of war, the Bundeswehr mission cost €12.5 billion, 100,000 civilian deaths. After 20 years Afghanistan has not become safer or more peaceful. On the contrary, the Taliban are back and they are stronger than before because they can now fall back on a highly equipped and trained army. And that shows us one thing: War does not create peace.”

SOT, Janine Wissler, Die Linke top candidate (German): “Foreign policy is much more than military. Foreign policy means the struggle for a just global economic order, against unfair free trade agreements, it means strengthening development cooperation and it means international solidarity. And do you know what would be a really good contribution to international solidarity? If one were to ensure the fair distribution of vaccines in this world so that the poorer countries can vaccinate their people and provide them with medicines.”
