Dog with the cutest underbite gets second chance at life

Hi, I’m Sheena, Daisy’s owner, and would like to share Daisy’s story. About 10 years ago, I was on the search to adopt a dog and wanted to specifically adopt a special needs dog, knowing that they have a challenging time finding a forever home. I came across Daisy’s listing on the pet adoption site, who was actually named scooter at the time. She was found as a stray by an animal control officer in Southern California.

I read her story and watched her video that the rescue had provided. In the video, she was trying her hardest to walk in the new wheelchair that was donated to her. And it was the cutest thing, but what struck me the most was the fact that Daisy was wagging her tail throughout the entire video. So I wanted to meet her in person. And went to the adoption event. When I met her, my immediate thought was, “Oh, wow, look at that underbite,” because I couldn’t quite see her underbite in the photos, but I felt her loving, sweet nature and signed the adoption papers.

It was the best decision I’ve ever made. Daisy was born with dislocated joints, which results in the hop that you see when she walks. She has shifted from using a wheelchair to prosthetic legs to not using any aiding device at all. It has been challenging for both Daisy and I to find the best solution for her unique body and needs in a creative manner, because there aren’t too many resources out there, but I’m just really trying my best to gauge what she wants in different life stages and respecting that. She has given me so much in life that I did not expect. And the least I could do is to try my best in returning even half of what she has given me. Daisy has such a happy, carefree spirit that influences many people around her. And I would like to continue to spread her joy.
