Ukrainians who were evacuated from combat zones in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), were brought to Bezimenne on Saturday, where a camp has been set by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the DPR to receive displaced people.

Humanitarian corridors and zones for the withdrawal of civilians were agreed upon and organized after talks on Thursday between the delegations of Russia and Ukraine.

SOUNDBITES:

SOT, Evacuated woman (Russian): “What do you think? People were approaching me and children. Fourteen people were sitting near my house. For nine days we were lying. The ground was shaking. Sorry.”

SOT, Evacuated woman (Russian): “We have no home. The shell hit our house. What else can I say?”
Evacuated man (Russian): “What can I tell you? How do I know who used this shell? I don’t know. It was 6:00 am. We were sleeping in the same room. There were six people sleeping on one couch, and the next room was hit by a shell. When we opened our eyes everything was covered in smoke, and the sky was above our heads.”
Evacuated woman (Russian): “I don’t know how we remained alive.”
Evacuated man (Russian): “I don’t know how we remained alive. You see, a 6-year-old child is here, the boy is 13 and five more adults are also here.”

SOT, Evacuated man (Russian): “Elementary human [assistance was provided]. They gave us water, tea, fed the children. That’s it. Now we are sitting here and waiting. What are we waiting for? We have some place to go, we have relatives here, we have friends. We have already called them and told them that we are going. And we are sitting and sitting here, for two hours already, how much [more]?”

SOT, Oleg Ignatov, employee of the republican distribution center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of DPR (Russian): “They [residents] got here in their own vehicles, in personal cars. It was very difficult, [they were] under fire, but they got here and we met them.”

SOT, Oleg Ignatov, employee of the republican distribution center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of DPR (Russian): “At the moment we are ready to accommodate about 50 people at the same time. If necessary, if more [assistance] is needed, [additional] means for receiving people will be deployed.”
