Hundreds of police officers took part in search and seizure operations following the riot that claimed 116 lives in Guayaquil prison, spurring Ecuadorian President Lasso to declare a state of emergency in the country’s prison system, on Thursday.

Police from various units gathered outside the prison wards before the search and seizure operation began in the prison.

The National Service of Integral Attention to Persons Deprived of Liberty (SNAI) also reported that 52 people were injured.

According to the authorities, the riot broke out due to “clashes between criminal gangs.”

Officers have already seized three firearms, a hand grenade, 12 sticks of dynamite, 507 projectiles, drugs, 16 mobile phones, and nine handmade sharp weapons.
