Egypt: 181 students returning from Ukraine arrive at Cairo Airport

An Air Cairo jet from Romania landed at Cairo International Airport with 181 passengers on board, most of them Egyptian students who fled from neighbouring Ukraine due to the ongoing war.
“A very important part was coordinating the Egyptian government to provide all the services they need. Not only facilitating procedures to reach Egypt, but also taking care of the psychological state,” said Mahmoud Tharwat, head of the Health and Welfare Department at the Egyptian Red Crescent.
Mohamed Akrim, a returning student, said, “we are at war, there is no worse situation than that, I don’t know what to say, we sleep with the sound of missiles and wake up on them and you can die at any moment.”

Even if you die, you will not come back unless we are reassured that the state will provide us with a way to return or study again, and praise be to God, our Lord guides us.”

Our only hope is that the Minister of Higher Education will accept our enrollment in universities in Egypt in the same school year we were studying, because if Ukraine refuses us to come back because of the instability of the situation, our future will be lost. Some of us are in the fifth, fourth or sixth year of university and some of us are in the third year, in this case a lot of us will be ruined.”
