Equatorial Guinea Explosion Leaves 17 Dead After ‘Negligent Handling of Dynamite’

At least 17 people have died and more than 600 injured in a series of explosions in Bata, Equatorial Guinea.

Officials said the blasts were caused by “negligent handling of dynamite” at military barracks.

Footage posted online appears to show people running through the streets amid debris and huge plumes of smoke.

Foreign Minister Simeón Oyono Esono Angue asked for urgent aid following the explosions.

Health officials said that they believed there were people missing in buildings damaged by the blast.
