France: "Europe involved in resolution of Ukraine conflict since day one" - Macron

Europe has been involved in the resolution of the Ukraine conflict since its beginning, stated French President Emanuel Macron in Paris on Tuesday.
Speaking at a joint press conference with EU Commission President Charles Michel, Macron answered a question by a journalist on the reasons behind the EU’s absence in the talks on the Ukraine conflict between the US and Russia,. which were taking place simultaneously.
Charles Michel commemorated the President of the European Parliament David Sassoli, who has deceased earlier in the day. Michel’s visit to Paris comes as France assumes its EU presidency.

The problem being, there is no dialogue for the European Union regarding Ukraine, as neither the European Council, nor the Council of the European Union are associated to the discussions which started yesterday in Geneva. I would like to know the reason for this absence, is it simply that Russia has not invited the Europeans to participate in this discussion, or is it that you consider that both institutions that you preside have no necessity to be active in the field of foreign policy. Also, this morning the Ukrainian President [Volodymyr Zelenski] called for four-party-summit, i.e. the Normandy Format which you mentioned a moment ago.
