France: Macron welcomes Charles Michel in Paris as France assumes EU presidency

French President Emmanuel Macron welcomed the President of the European Commission Charles Michel to the Elysee Palace in Paris on Tuesday. The meeting comes days after France assumed the role of President of the Council of the European Union.

Their presidency runs from January 1 to June 30, 2022. Macron is also running for re-election in the April French presidential elections.

The two leaders are expected to discuss the death of the President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, who passed away on Tuesday.
