SOT, Marc Bastide, Secretary general at UCR-CGT trade union, (French): “In two months, we distributed leaflets, had meetings, et cetera, et cetera. And we put out several thousand retirees today [in the march] in Paris. I can tell you that it will mark the social movement. And that we understand each other well, it is not a last stand today, we will give ourselves along with the group of 9 (Trade unions), deadlines from January!”
SOT, Michel Denieault, President of LSR Union, (French): “Purchasing power is deteriorating. For the first time in the Fifth Republic, we are going to have a five-year term where our pensions are lower at the end of the quinquennium than at the beginning. It is absolutely outrageous, while at the same time the prices are increasing. We need more purchasing power.”
SOT, Jean, Protester, (French): “When I have paid my rent and my charges, I have nothing left. So Mr Macron, we must not be forgotten. Because myself, next year, I will not forget either. It is not for him that I will vote, far from it.”
SOT, Aminda, Trade unionist, (French): “Like all workers and the population of this country, we have less and less income. Life is more and more difficult. They must hear our demands. So what we are asking for is simple: that our pensions be reassessed, that they follow the cost of living and that we stop taking retirees for the cash cows of France.”
