Thousands of undocumented migrants rallied in Paris on Friday demanding legalisation of their status and the release of fellow activists.

After a counter-summit of the Africa-France Summit held in Montpellier earlier in October, several protesters were arrested due to the lack of residence permits.

They were ordered to leave the French territory and forbidden from turning - a move opposed by the demonstrators.

SOT, Youssef, Protester: “Even today, we demonstrate for the comrades that they recently had OQTFs and works during the Montpellier event, the counter summit. This arbitrary arrest which will cost us dearly and will cost us the detention of two comrades at the Nimes detention center that we managed to free them.”

SOT, Youssef, Protester: “And there, we lead another fight against the RTR and the OQTF. I think shame has to change sides. It is they who must be ashamed of this manner of repression which is used against undocumented migrants. We have nothing to be ashamed of, but we are there to work, to collaborate, to contribute, to contribute to French society.”
