France: Works begin at L"Arc de Triomphe to wrap monument with late artist Christo"s canvas

Workers controlling a crane were seen moving materials under the Arc de Triomphe in Paris on Thursday, as works to install and wrap the monument with a canvas by late artist Christo began.

After a year following the artist’s passing in New York, Christo’s work will finally see the light and be installed around the Arc de Triomphe.

The steel framework that will carry the 25,000 square metre (269,097 square feet) of fabric sewn in Lubeck, Germany, which was manufactured by a French company in Niort.

After being postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the spectacular installation is scheduled for completion on September 18 and will remain on the monument until October 3, 2021.
