Germany: Federal and state governments agree on tightened restrix to fight COVID pandemic

Outgoing German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced that both federal and state governments had reached an agreement on the tightening of COVID-19 restrictions during a press conference held in Berlin on Thursday.

An “act of national solidarity” is needed to break the fourth wave, said Merkel after the consultations and stressed the importance of booster vaccinations.

“The vaccination status will not be permanently recognised as double vaccinated and thus fully vaccinated,” said Merkel.

In retail, store access is restricted according to the 2G rule, which includes vaccinated and recovered people, regardless of the incidence. Shops for daily needs are excluded, according to the Chancellor.

Cultural, leisure facilities and restaurants will also only be open for vaccinated and those who have recovered. Furthermore, contact restrictions for the unvaccinated were decided.

Germany’s incoming chancellor and current Vice-Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced the planned efforts of the federal and state governments to provide vaccinations for all people who decide to have a first, second or booster vaccination by Christmas which can add up to 30 million administered vaccines.

Earlier in the week, on Wednesday, Germany’s Robert Koch Institute reported 446 deaths due to COVID in a single day, the highest daily death toll in the past nine months.

According to the latest figures published on Thursday by the RKI, a total of 68.7 percent of the country’s population has received their second jabs and 71.6 percent of the population have received at least one jab.

So wherever not all participants have been vaccinated and recovered, this limit of your own household applies, as well as a maximum of two other people. Children up to the age of 14 are exempt from this.”

And that is why a participant limit of 50 people applies for private celebrations and gatherings, that means vaccinated and recovered, indoors and 200 people vaccinated and recovered outdoors.”

This is a legislative work that can now replace or expand the regulations by December 15 that now had a transitional period.”
