Germany: Hundreds join pro-choice protest as anti-abortion 'March for Life' hits Berlin

Hundreds of pro-choice protesters marched through Berlin on Saturday, as the annual anti-abortion ‘March for Life’ rally also took place in the German capital.

Demonstrators could be seen holding banners and signs calling for sexual self-determination and for Germany’s restrictive abortion laws to be reformed.

According to local media, Berlin police estimated that pro-choice protesters were in the low four figures, while more people turned out for the ‘March for Life.’

The annual anti-abortion march, which also condemns euthanasia and stem cell research, is often a flashpoint for counter-protests, with police being deployed in numbers to prevent clashes.
