Germany: Hundreds rally against Turkish operations in Iraqi Kurdistan

Hundreds of people gathered to protest against what they consider Turkey’s occupation of Iraqi Kurdistan in Dusseldorf on Saturday.

Demonstrators were seen performing traditional Kurdish dances, while chanting and waving banners.

Turkey has been conducting its Operations Claw-Lightning and Claw-Thunderbolt since April 23, hitting alleged PKK positions in northern Duhok province with cross-border shelling.

SOT, Protester (German): “It is important to show solidarity to put an end to the war in Kurdistan, but it’s not just about that, it’s about defending the Kurdish freedom movement and our world, because we are connected to one another, so we should take to the streets together.”

SOT, Protester: “We are here today against racism and fascism to the Muslims. The Turkish army and its chief Erdogan attack Turkish cities and villages. They arrest the Kurds every day. We are here to warn the European authorities not to support fascism. The Kurdish people should feel fully like the other people. That’s why we’re here today, we want to raise our voices.”
