Germany: Laschet presents his "future team" ahead of election final sprint

The CDU chancellor candidate Armin Laschet presented his ‘future team’ of experts at a press conference in Berlin on Friday.
The team, consisting of four women and four men, included economic expert Friedrich Merz, digital state minister Dorothee Bar, and terrorism expert Peter Neumann. Also included were education minister Karin Prien, culture minister Barbara Klepsch and CDU Vice-President Silvia Breher, as well as music manager Joe Chialo.
“Combating right-wing extremism and right-wing terrorism, which is currently the greatest threat to peace at domestic level,” stated Armin Laschet.
The CDU candidate also said that Germany needs to restructure its economy “also in order to achieve the climate protection goals.”
Laschet expects his “future team” can help regain popularity for the CDU/CSU in the run-up to the Bundestag elections on 26 September, as in recent polls, the SPD’s top candidate Olaf Scholz passed his conservative rival for the first time with less than a month to go before election day on Sunday, September 26.
