Germany: Metalworkers union in Munich rally under 'fair change' slogan

Hundreds of metalworkers in Munich joined IG Metall’s nationwide day of action on Friday, rallying under the slogan ‘a fair and socio-ecological change in the industry.’

Workers marched waving flags and holding banners with slogans such as, ‘‘Nothing will change without a strike’ and ‘Without fair change, everything is stupid.’

Several rallies were held in different parts of Germany, including Berlin and Stuttgart, with the largest ones in the Bavarian cities of Munich, Schweinfurt and Augsburg.

“I want us, together with IG Metall, to ensure that the terms and conditions being negotiated also take employee interests into account, which is important for me,” stated activist at the march Manfred.

IG Metall, the dominant metalworkers union in Germany, represents over 2.3 million members, and is actively involved in the ongoing coalition talks, asking that the future federal government invest €500 billion ($580 billion) by 2030. The Federal government should also demand binding commitments from companies for employment, training and qualifications.
