Germany: NRW to vote for new minister president amid Laschet departure

Minister for Transport in North Rhine-Westphalia Hendrik Wust and parliamentary group leader Bodo Lottgen attended a state parliamentary special session to elect the future state premier on Wednesday in Kamp-Lintfort. Armin Laschet stood down state premier and party chairperson following disappointing results at the Germany federal election in September.
During the press conference, the CDU members discussed issues related to the departure Laschet (CDU), as well as the election and inauguration of the soon to be new prime minister.
The most likely candidate is the incumbent state transport minister and new CDU state chief Hendrik Wust, who was unanimously agreed by the party.
“We have already made a decision at the beginning of the meeting, as the state parliamentary group, that we want to request a special meeting and have unanimously, and with great applause, decided on the personnel proposal for the election of the Minister President Hendrik Wust,” said Bodo Lottgen, parliamentary group leader.
The state parliament will vote on Wednesday.

Not only the great election result of Hendrik Wust, but also the unity that the state party delivered at this 43rd state party conference were the best conditions to talk here about the next months. And we did so in a relaxed mood.”

This state parliamentary group is a vital part of our state party and wants to work toward electoral success. It has worked out things for this that can be used.
